Tom Nugent is the Research Director at LiftPort. He holds degrees in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Materials Science from the Massuchusetts Institute of Technology. He also spent a year in an intensive, non-degree program in Japanese Language at the University of Pittsburgh.  

Prior to joining LiftPort, Tom worked on liquid-fueled rocket engine development through the MIT Rocket Team, and characterized an advanced fusion propulsion system at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He has served as a consultant to a micro-satellite firm, and worked in the Space Development Group at Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industry's Yokohama, Japan, research center. He has also lectured on the Japanese space program.

The focus of the Center for Structures in Extreme Environments is the study of structures that are exemplary of the human spirit for exploration and advancement - whether it be the exploration of space, the settlement of the Moon and Mars, or pushing the frontiers of understanding and development of the ocean - we are glad to be a part of a very exciting aspect of the human adventure.
